Lotus Cars Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

  1. Lotus Formula One
Lotus has no intention of returning to Formula One; instead Lotus is concentrating its efforts on a race series based around Lotus products.

  2. Lotus Formula One Facts

    • 7 Constructors World Championships: '63, '65, '68, '70, '72, '73, '78
    • 6 Drivers World Championships (Clark - twice '63 & '65, Hill '68, Rindt '70, Fitipaldi '72, Andretti '78
    • Team Lotus: 79 GP Victories
    • Privateers driving Lotus F1 cars: 4 GP victories

  3. Why do Lotus names have to start with an E?
Nobody really knows but before the Lotus Eleven all Lotus road cars were known as Mark 1, Mark 2 etc. However, when it came to the Lotus Eleven using the numerical symbol confused the car with the Roman Numerals for the number 2. Consequently, since the Lotus Eleven all Lotus road car names have started with the letter E.

  4. Esprit
The supercar of all supercars finished production in February 2004 after being in production since 1976 (first presented in 1972 at the Turin Motorshow).

  5. Lotus' Safety Features

    • Great handling
    • Great brakes - (cars aren't too heavy to slow down) Driver training
    • Protective crash structure - 7 times more efficient than steel in protecting car occupants

  6. How do Lotus products fit the Lotus philosophy?
All Lotus cars have the core values of:
    • Performance through lightweight
    • Innovation
    • Great ride and handling
    • Fun to drive

  7. How would you define the Elise?
The Elise rewrote the rule book for lightweight sportscars and we have evolved that design to improve on every area. The Elise set new standards in ride and handling, it is quicker and its level of quality and design is at an all time high for Lotus.

  8. How does this car distinguish itself from others in the marketplace?
Just take a look at it. The Elise is a combination of stunning design, driver involvement and performance that very few, if any, cars can match. It will set new standards for the sportscar market and quality will be at an all time high for Lotus.

  9. How does the U.S. version differ to the U.K. variant?
Based on current 2005 Model Year specification, the Elise sold in the U.K. and U.S. have a number of differences - primarily based around countries homologation requirements. The U.S. Elise primarily features a revised dashboard to incorporate standard fit driver and passenger airbags. Additional standard specification for the U.S. version includes air conditioning, starter button, internal emergency engine hatch release, external side markers and Yokohama tyres. From a technical perspective, the U.S. Elise is the same as a 111R except for a revised fuel system allowing the vehicle to meet the required U.S. emissions legislation

  10. How do I find out where my nearest dealer is?
You can find the list of dealers on the dealer locator section of www.lotuscars.co.uk or go to Lotus Cars USA web-site www.lotuscars.com.

  11. Who do I contact to find out when my car will be delivered?
The best source of information is from the same dealer where the car was ordered. At Lotus, we only build cars to a specification, not to an individual customer name. It is the supplying dealer who determines which customer order goes with which production slot on a month-by-month basis.

  12. Can I collect my car from Lotus?
It is Lotus' company policy for customers to purchase cars from the dealer network not directly from the factory. We are, however, investigating a programme of allowing individuals the opportunity to visit Lotus and its facilities through a more organised programme than presently available.

  13. Can I import a car from the U.S. into Canada?
Due to different homologation legislation it is not possible to import a U.S. specification Elise into Canada

  14. Are Lotus planning on entering the Canadian market with the Elise?
We are currently working with the Canadian authorities to establish what changes need to made to the current model to meet the required homologation legislation

  15. Will Lotus be bringing the Exige to Canada?
Whilst we plan to bring the Exige to the US market in the Autumn of 2005, further testing will be required to take the same car into Canada. As with the Elise programme, we are working with the Canadian authorities to establish the extent of testing required.

  16. Where does the 'Elise' name come from?
The name 'Elise' comes from the name of Romano Artioli's grand-daughter. Romano Artioli was the Chairman of Lotus at the time of the inception and launch of the Lotus Elise and his grand-daughter Elise was born at around that time.
