Like the smaller BMW i3, the iX has been constructed using a generous dose of die-cast and sheet aluminium, high-strength steel and plastics reinforced with carbon-fibre. Power comes from a 71kWh battery in the ‘entry-level’ iX xDrive 40 or a huge 105kWh one in the range-topping xDrive50. Both versions have four-wheel drive, with an electric motor on each axle.
